  Charley Trippi Jersey

  Charley Trippi was a legendary American football player who played as a halfback, quarterback, and punter for the Chicago Cardinals of the NFL from 1947 to 1955. He was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and played college football at the University of Georgia, where he won the Maxwell Award and was a two-time All-American. He also served in the US Army Air Forces during World War II and played for the Third Air Force Gremlins.

  Trippi was the first overall pick in the 1945 NFL Draft by the Cardinals, who signed him to a then-record four-year contract worth $100,000. He joined the Cardinals’ “Dream Backfield” that also featured Paul Christman, Pat Harder, and Elmer Angsman. He led the Cardinals to their only NFL championship in 1947, when he was named the MVP of the title game after scoring two touchdowns and throwing for another. He also helped the Cardinals reach the 1948 NFL Championship Game, which they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in a blizzard.

  Trippi was a versatile and dynamic player who could excel at multiple positions. He was the first player in NFL history to gain 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving in his career. He also led the league in punt returns twice and was a skilled passer and punter. He was selected to three Pro Bowls and was named to the NFL 1940s All-Decade Team. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1959.

  Charley Trippi was one of the greatest players of his era and a pioneer of the modern game. He influenced many future stars, such as Gale Sayers and Walter Payton, who admired his skills and versatility.

  Charley Trippi lived a long and remarkable life. He died in 2022 at the age of 100, making him the oldest living member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame at the time of his death
